County Galway is located in the west of Ireland in the province of Connaught. It is located directly across the country from Dublin, so If you drive from here should take about 3 hours.
Galway is a very large city (2nd largest in Ireland) and is filled with many things to do and do. Galway has its own city, which is known internationally as a paradise for shopping, culture and nightlife.
From Galway city is generally the first port of call for visitors because it has excellent road and rail links with the rest of the country. A visit here and you'll be seduced by charm, relaxed and friendly. Stroll the cobbled streets of the city and enjoy its cafes, boutiques and restaurants. At night the city really comes alive with throbbing nightclubs and bars and the sound of traditional Irish music, which remains in the air so just follow the sounds!
Galway city center can easily walk in a day, but it takes much more time to explore sites like Eyre Square, Spanish Arch, City Museum, the National University of Galway Cathedral and Salmon Weir Bridge. Remember to cross the River Corrib to achieve the "Claddagh" was once a small village Fishing outside the city walls. The city of Galway has been called the "Cultural Capital of Ireland" and "San Francisco Festival of Ireland "because of his dedication to the arts and cultural events. Three of the biggest festivals in Galway in the schedule of races held each year Galway Oyster Festival and Galway Arts Festival Galway.
If the weather is nice, take a short drive (about 3 km) in Salthill – a beautiful spa on the shores of Galway Bay. It has a beautiful waterfront, in fact, it is the longest in Ireland to enjoy a walk along the "Prom" and not be surprised if you see local people (Galwegians) kick the wall at the end of it – it's a tradition!
From Galway City, west Head along the R336 coastal road along the north shore of Galway Bay. You will find yourself drawn to quite a number on this stretch of road on the landscape and views of the bay can only be described as spectacular!
About 13 miles west of Galway city, will reach the small village of Spiddal. This charming village is the start of the Galway Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area), so it is very popular among students who come here to learn the language during the summer months. It has a beautiful beach and some lively traditional pubs where Guinness and good music can be appreciated.
West still in the R336 and reach the picturesque village Rossaveal port. This is the starting point for ferries to the Aran Islands – 3 islands off the coast Galway, who are not only known for its unique beauty, but their language, culture, history and heritage.
As you weave your ascent northwards along the west coast of Galway will reach the beautiful town of Clifden, which also can be reached from Galway city via the N59. Clifden Ireland is one of the most loved holiday destinations as it is the ideal place to "escape and relax. There are many outdoor activities in the area and visit attractions such as Kylemore Abbey, Ballynahinch Castle, Inishbofin Island and location of the accident Alcock and Brown (1919), in Derrygimlach Bog.
Clifden is also known as the "Capital of Connemara 'which is an ideal base for exploring this region and the National Park. Connemara is a region of north-west of Galway city which is famous for its wild and remote landscapes. It consists mainly of wetlands, mountains, forests and rivers, but is it the raw natural beauty, which makes the Connemara, a magnet for visitors to Galway. Connemara, in the north is the National Park which comprises approximately 4000 acres available to visitors many opportunities for landscape landscapes outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, trekking, sailing, diving, observation Bird and horse pony. You can also take the opportunity to see some wonderful historical and archaeological attractions.
Other pretty villages worth a visit Cleggan, Renvyle, Roundstone and Leenane. Here, the pace of life is slow and you get a true picture of Irish life and customs. Pop in bars and shops and to familiarize residents warm.
Not to be less dramatic in the west of Galway, it has also much to offer. East and West are divided by Lough Corrib – the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland.
The East has some of our favorite cities in the Irish as the medieval town of Athenry, which is synonymous with the legendary Irish song "The Fields of Athenry". You can also visit the town of Ballinasloe, which is also called "Gateway to the West" as it is located on the main Dublin / Galway Road. Ballinasloe is the largest city of Galway.
Maybe you want to visit Georgia Portumna town on the River Shannon, the Heritage City or Gort, where William Butler Yeats lived.
Kinvara, Claregalway, Tuam, Oranmore and Clarinbridge Galway are other cities worth visiting.
